Calculus Group Assignment: Exponentials and Logarithms
Unless otherwise specified, problems for this group assignment come from our
textbook, Calculus by James Stewart. In particular, problems come
from Section 7.2 and 7.3 (NOT 7.2* and 7.3*). Problems for Section 7.2
appear on pages 402-404, and problems for Section 7.3 appear on pages 409-411.
For each of the following problems, write a careful solution.
That is,
-
When calculations are needed, you should show your work.
-
When statements are needed, you should use complete sentences with careful
wording.
-
When a questions indicates "Justify your answer", you should write a
thorough statement — usually a short paragraph.
Do each of the following problems:
-
Find the exponential function f(x) = C ax that contains
the points (1,6) and (3,54). (In this problem, consider both C
and a to be constants.)
-
Section 7.2(48)
-
Section 7.2(60) (assume t ≥ 0)
-
Section 7.3(40)
-
Section 7.3(44)
-
Section 7.3(64)
Work to Turn In
You must work in groups of 2 or 3 for this group assignment.
-
Solutions to each of the 6 problems specified.
-
Although it should go without saying for an organized write up,
solutions should be organized into problem order.
-
Grading will proceed in problem order from front to back, so problems out
of order will likely not be graded. (Details of grading follow.)
-
I will grade problem 1 first.
-
Any later problems (2, 3, 4, 5 or 6) appearing before problem 1 will not
be graded.
-
I will grade problem 2 next (but only if it comes after problem 1 in what
is turned in).
-
Any later problems (3, 4, 5 or 6) appearing before either problem 1 or
problem 2 will not be graded.
-
I will grade problem 3 next (but only if it comes after problems 2 and 3 in
what is turned in).
-
Etc.
