More Context

Beyond the position of objects, schools follow many formats and approaches for CS1.

• In recent years, CS 115 has followed a traditional format used widely in the United States.

• In keeping with national exploration, the SSU CS faculty asked me to offer a different approach.

  • Offered at Grinnell College since fall 2011
  • Offered during my visits at the University of the South, Williams College, and Willamette University.
  • Materials and refinements developed in coperation with 5 student teams
  • At least three peer-reviewed published (joint authored by my students and myself)

• In all cases, the courses cover the same fundamental problem-solving approaches, algorithms, approaches for storing and processing data, etc.
