Grinnell College

Grinnell College takes academic honesty very seriously.

If found responsible for academic dishonesty, typical outcomes include

• First finding of responsibility
  • Specific outcome depends upon the scope and severity of the difficulty
  • All outcomes have some common elements
    • Zero on the exercise (paper, homework assignment, test)
    • Semester grade
      • Instructor computes grade with the zero included
      • In all but most minor cases, resulting grade lowered
        • usually between 1/3 letter and full letter grade
        • grade of F assigned for course in particularly severe cases
    • Academic Honesty Probation
    • In many cases, not eligible to graduate with departmental honors
  • In all but most minor cases, turning in dishonest work yields grade lower than not turning in the work

• Second finding of responsibility

  • Suspension or dismissal from the college
