Next Steps

Grinnell's basic CS-major structure:

• 3-course, multi-paradigm introductory sequence
• 1-course, supporting mathematics
• 2 course core (theory): algorithms, theory of computation
• courses supporting 3 themes
  • "systems" (architecture, OS/parallel algorithms)
  • "programming languages"
  • "team-based, software development project"

Questions for a liberal arts, undergraduate curriculum:

• Where should security fit in (a third "systems" course?)
• Is a 2-course requirement for algorithms, theory the right coverage?
• Is 1 course for team-based software development project the right level?
  • If so, then outcomes mapping would likely be some merging of 3 in Grinnell spreadsheet
• How should languages fit in?

Once general categories identified, small group can explore outcomes in each areas.
