Bluetooth Connection Modifications: Mac OS X

Beyond using a MAC address, Mac OS X provides a separate mechanism for Bluetooth communication: pairing the computer with a Bluetooth device. To pair a device:

• Turn on the device
• Open System Preferences for Bluetooth
• Find the desired device in a menu, and click, "Pair"

This pairing creates a file in a device directory, such as

  /dev/tty.Fluke2-0950-Fluke2

With such files created, the Bluetooth connection function rConnect allows two main options:

• An rConnect parameter may specify any part of a Fluke serial number, provided the string is unique.
• If the specified string does not match any paired Fluke serial number,
  • a full list of all paired Flukes is printed,
  • the user can designate which Fluke to utilize

Notes:

• For any specified user string, behind-the-scenes processing for rConnect involves a sequential search through the stored file names for Fluke pairings.
• Although the listing shows all Flukes that have been paired, there is no checking whether that robot has been turned on and is available.
