eSpeak with Windows 10
Key considerations:
Duddington's eSpeak materials include an sSpeak program that runs nicely on Windows 10, but
Windows 10 does not have PortAudio installed by default
Consequences
Creating a pipe and a new process largely follows a different model on Windows 10 from what is used on Linux or Mac OS X
The
popen
statement of Linux/Mac OS X must be replaced by about 58 lines for Windows 10.
Allows considerable control
Many standard steps must be written explicitly
Otherwise, processing eSpeak commands similar to approach for Mac OS X
Change of voice sound (e.g., changing gender) requires killing old eSpeak program and starting a new one
For initialization or change of gender, work with eSpeak program
Starting of program includes both program name and voice parameters
eSpeakTalk involves passing text through pipe
eSpeakDisconnect or change of gender requires killing old eSpeak process
