Handles behind-the-scenes communication between a computer (desktop/laptop) and the Scribbler 2 robot

• Robot commands for

  • establishing a Bluetooth connection between computer and robot
  • tone generation
  • motion
  • retrieval of sensor information
  • retrieval (and display) of camera/image data
  • administrative tasks (setting/retrieving robot's name, turning lights on/off, etc.)

• Speech synthesizer commands for

  • connecting to a speech synthesizer (on the computer, not the robot)
  • setting some speech-quality parameters
  • specifying text to be spoken

Goals for Today

• Discuss some underlying concepts for Bluetooth communication
• Describe basic Bluetooth communication protocols for sound
• Consider elements of using third-party speech synthesizer (eSpeak)
