APCS A Labs

Elevens Lab

Games are known to motivate programming students. Card games, particularly solitaire games, are especially accessible. This curriculum segment attempts to take advantage of students' interest to solidify their understanding of object-oriented design and inheritance, and to introduce the topic of simulation to determine the chances of winning a game. The student activities are related to a simple solitaire game called Elevens. Students will learn the rules of Elevens and will be able to play it by using the supplied Graphical User Interface (GUI). They will learn about the design and the Object-Oriented Principles suggested by that design. They will also receive substantial practice implementing algorithms as they write their portions of the Elevens code.
