Write a paragraph that defines the concept of academic honesty.
Here is one attempt to write the required paragraph:
Academic integrity involves, most fundamentally, behaving honestly,
openly and constructively within academic endeavors.
The concept that unifies
ethics policy
is transparency.
Transparency, or revealing the way in which work was completed and
conclusions were reached, results in proper citation of work, and
permits students and scholars alike to receive proper recognition and
evaluation.
One particular type of academic
dishonesty—plagiarism—occurs when a writer uses sources,
whether through quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing, without clearly
or sufficiently acknowledging the debt.
Self-plagiarism is a related issue. In this document we define
self-plagiarism as the verbatim or near-verbatim reuse of significant
portions of one's own copyrighted work without citing the original
source.
